WesTech CEO Rex Plaizier Joins Microvi Board

WesTech filters, aerators, and clarifiers are part of the new water treatment plant in Ames, Iowa, which is scheduled for completion in August.

November 21, 2017 — WesTech Engineering, Inc. CEO Rex Plaizier is joining the Microvi Biotech, Inc. (Microvi) Board of Directors, the company announced today. Microvi specializes in next-generation bioconversion technologies in the water, wastewater and bio-based chemical industries.

Plaizier has more than 30 years of experience in the development and implementation of municipal and industrial water treatment solutions globally. He has served as WesTech’s CEO since 2013.

“We look forward to benefitting from the experience and talent of Mr. Plaizier as we rapidly commercialize our suite of technologies,” said Microvi CEO Fatemeh Shirazi. “His insight and commitment towards bio-based solutions in the water and wastewater industries reveals his passion for Microvi’s technologies. He is a welcome addition to our Board of Directors.”

Plaizier has spent the majority of his career with WesTech, a Salt Lake City-based, 500+ employee, global company that designs and manufactures solutions for water treatment, liquids/solids separation, and minerals beneficiation. WesTech Engineering, Inc. recently signed an exclusive alliance agreement with Microvi to promote Microvi’s biocatalyst technologies in North America.

Plaizier serves on several other corporate and advisory boards in addition to his role as Chairman of the Board of WesTech. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Mining Engineering, and an MBA from the University of Utah. He was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Aachen in Germany.

Plaizier joins the board at a key time, with Microvi on the verge of rapid project expansion in Australia, the UK and across the US.
