The Town of Franklin, UT depends on chlorinated spring
water from surrounding mountains for their water supply.
During the spring months, runoff made the water turbid
so the city hired Forsgren Engineering to complete a
facility planning study. Their findings led to the decision
to employ membrane treatment technology.
A pilot trial, completed during spring runoff,
confirmed that feed water turbidities, as high as 40 NTU
(nephelometric turbidity unit), were successfully treated
through the membrane system, which incorporated an
AltaFilter™ provided and installed by WesTech
Engineering.
The membrane system is configured in two banks, each
with six modules. There are two open slots on each
bank for future expansion. Franklin also faced
challenges regarding their waste streams. The water
treatment facility is located on a small piece of land,
without a sewer connection. WesTech’s solution was to
include two extra modules which further concentrate the
backwash water, raising facility efficiency to over
98%. “The total system gives us good, safe drinking
water and resolves our problems for decades to come,”
says plant operator, Cory Richards.
